Autumnal Activities For Families in Dorset by|
Believe it or not autumn is nearly here, the temperature is starting to fall and the leaves are beginning to turn. Autumn also brings with it autumn half-term, with that in mind we’ve pulled together some top ideas for autumnal activities in Dorset for families.
Go for an autumn walk
Early autumn is the perfect time for a walk. Get the family together, get friends round or invite your child’s school friends over for a walk this autumn half-term. There’s nothing better than wrapping up warm, putting on your big boots and heading out to walk across the fields. You don’t have to go far, you only have to go as far as you and you want to; there’s no pressure when it comes to a walk in the countryside. For some top tips for excellent walks in Dorset, have a look at this list of walks in Dorset from The National Trust.
Start toasting marshmallows
In our book, it’s never too early to start toasting marshmallows over a fire! Autumn half-term is the perfect excuse to start! If you are lucky enough to have a garden, or if you have a friend who does then why not have a small and controlled fire outside (here are some tips on how to have a fire safely). Then put some marshmallows on a stick and toast them over the lovely warming glow of an open fire.
Visit the theatre
When the weather turns then the theatre is a great place for family activities this autumn half-term. So, if you’re looking for something to do in Dorset this autumn then why not head over to one of our fantastic theatres from The Marine Theatre at Lyme Regis to the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne, to find out more about all the fantastic theatres on offer in Dorset click here.
BUT THEN THERE’S THE BEST AUTUMN FAMILY ACTIVITY IN DORSET...
Dorset Mud Trail

Muddy, muddy fun
Dorset Mud Trail is a 1.5km muddy trail filled with obstacles for you to take on, climb over, jump off and crawl under! What a fantastic way to spend a day out! Fun for adults and children alike, Dorset Mud Trail is open to the under sixes; though we recommend that children are old enough to run around independently - that way they can make the most of the trail.
Snacks and showers
Dorset Mud Trail has a full range of facilities including our very own Snack Shack which serves hot and cold drinks and hot food. Perfect for refreshing you after a hard morning out on the trail. There are also ‘beach style’ showers, lockers and changing rooms so that you can wash off and get changed before tucking into your food. Of course, if you would prefer to bring your own food then we have a fantastic picnic area which overlooks Corfe castle.
